On arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, a Chauffeur Guide will be there to meet you and assist with the transfer to Chilaw, a quiet coastal town a short drive from the airport. Check into the hotel and spend a relaxed first evening by the sea.

Day 1 – Arrival in Sri Lanka (Chilaw Beach)

After an early breakfast, depart for Anawilundawa Bird Sanctuary for a peaceful morning birdwatching safari.

Later, continue to Wilpattu National Park and check into your hotel near the park for a restful overnight stay.

Day 2 – Wilpattu

Begin the day with an early morning safari at Wilpattu National Park. Later in the afternoon, depart for Habarana to continue the next phase of your journey, with an overnight stay in Habarana.

Day 3 – Wilpattu Safari

The day is dedicated to a full day jeep safari in Minneriya, Kaudulla, or Hurulu Eco Park. The guide will select the most suitable park based on the season and elephant gathering patterns. Overnight stay in Habarana.

Day 4 – Habarana Safari

Begin the day with an early sunrise hike to Sigiriya, the iconic Lion’s Rock. Later, visit the nearby Sigiriya Bird Sanctuary before departing for Wasgamuwa for the next phase of the journey. Ovenight stay at Wasgamuwa.

Day 5 – Sigiriya

After an early breakfast, depart for another exciting safari at Wasgamuwa National Park. In the afternoon, continue to Mahiyanganaya, stopping en route at Dambana Vedda Village to meet the indigenous Vedda community of Sri Lanka.

Day 6 – Mahiyanganaya

Early in the morning, depart for a sunrise boat tour on Sorabora Lake, where you can observe many bird species in the calm morning light. Breakfast will be served on a small island in the lake. Later, depart from Mahiyanganaya and continue to Gal Oya for the next phase of the journey.

 

Day 7 – Gal Oya

Spend the day on a full day boat safari in Gal Oya National Park, where you may spot bathing elephants and other wildlife from the water. Later in the afternoon, depart for Arugam Bay for a stunning evening by the beach and an overnight stay.

Day 8 – Arugam Bay Beach

After an early breakfast, depart for another stunning birdwatching session at Kumana National Park. Later, return to Arugam Bay for another overnight stay by the beach.

Day 9 – Arugam Bay Beach

After an early breakfast, depart for an exciting wildlife safari at Yala National Park. Later, continue to Kataragama and check into your hotel for a restful overnight stay.

Day 10 – Yala Safari

This day is dedicated to two exciting birdwatching and wildlife safaris at Lunugamvehera National Park and Bundala National Park.

Afterwards, continue to Tangalle and check into your beachside hotel for the night.

Day 11 – Tangalle Beach

Early in the morning, depart for a sunrise lagoon kayaking session, where you may spot birds and other wildlife in the calm morning light.

Afterwards, continue to Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary to observe more birdlife in its natural wetland habitat.

Later, return to Tangalle for a relaxing sunset evening by the beach and another overnight stay.

Day 12 – Tangalle Beach

After breakfast, the journey continues to Sinharaja, Sri Lanka's last surviving primary rainforest and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The remainder of the day is spent at leisure in the calm surroundings of the forest.

Day 13 – Sinharaja Rain Forest

The day begins with a guided trek through Sinharaja Rainforest. Home to rare endemic birds, unique plant species, and wildlife found nowhere else on earth, the forest offers a wildlife experience entirely different from the open parks.

Later in the afternoon, depart for Udawalawe to continue the next phase of the journey.

Day 14 – Udawalawe

Depart early for a full day jeep safari in Udawalawe National Park, one of the best times to observe elephants and other wildlife as the park awakens with the first light of day.

Later in the afternoon, visit the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home to watch the baby elephants during feeding time before returning for another overnight stay in Udawalawe.

Day 15 – Udawalawe Safari

After breakfast, depart for Ohiya, a quiet mountain town known for its cool, misty atmosphere.

Spend the rest of the day at leisure, relaxing and recharging for the next day’s adventure.

Day 16 – Ohiya

Depart early in the morning for a scenic trek through the cloud forests of Horton Plains National Park.

Later in the afternoon, continue to Nuwara Eliya to enjoy a pleasant evening in the cool hill country climate, with an overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya.

Day 17 – Nuwara Eliya

After breakfast, depart for Kitulgala to begin the next phase of the journey.

In the afternoon, enjoy an exciting white water rafting experience on the Kelani River, followed by an overnight stay in Kitulgala.

Day 18 – Kithulgala

Spend the day enjoying another exciting birdwatching session at Makandawa Forest Reserve, known for its rich birdlife and lush rainforest habitat.

Later, return to Kitulgala for another restful overnight stay.

Day 19 – Kithulgala

After breakfast, the journey concludes with a drive to Colombo, Sri Lanka's vibrant commercial capital.

A guided city tour reveals the fascinating mix of modern life, colonial architecture, and rich cultural heritage that defines this dynamic city.

A delicious seafood lunch can be arranged on request. Overnight stay in Colombo.

Day 20 – Colombo

The journey comes to an end with a final transfer to the airport.

Wilpattu and Yala are two of the best places in the world to spot the Sri Lankan leopard. Sightings are never guaranteed in the wild, but both parks offer excellent conditions and experienced guides to maximise every opportunity.

This tour operates year round. However, the dry season from December to April is generally the best time for wildlife sightings and beach conditions across most regions covered in this itinerary.
